The gods have created the wild man, Enkidu. After meeting a temple harlot, he is introduced to civilization, and all the suffering and horror therein. He searches for the source of the suffering.
lyrics
ENKIDU:
Beauty surrounding me
This tranquility’s domain
Take my hand and be free
As my purpose escapes alone
Peace is in my mind
I feel kinship with the land
You are of mankind
Why have you sought me out?
TEMPLE HARLOT:
I come from afar
To grant you the knowledge of kings
Follow me into the stars
Let me show you the way
GILGAMESH:
With the strength of one thousand men
I will rule you as your
God
The city's walls will keep you trapped
You can’t run away
I hear your cries
Seeking answers from the sky above
But there’s only clouds
So worship me
I will grant you mercy
If you bow, bow down
ENKIDU:
A calm from within
As the river carries my pain
The breeze caress my skin
And the trees they are my home
Your beauty is so kind
An your hazel eyes pierce my soul
For you I’ll leave my world behind
Will you show me the way
THE PEOPLE:
Death!
Disease!
Famine!
Addiction!
Slavery!
Misery!
Corruption!
Destruction!
ENKIDU:
All that surrounds me is filth and decay
The walls of the city invite willing prey
And all of this wealth is hoarded by craven lords
Who guard it with soldiers, bearing blood splattered swords
You think you’re strong but you’re just a man
Though you think you are a god
But you are nothing like one now
You have no shame
The words you say
Won’t be answered by the sky above
Save for a cloud
So we will see
If your might is enough to
Hold your ground
NARRATOR:
The world watches
Judging all the sin and evil he has done
How will he answer
For his punishment has only just begun
ENKIDU:
Man is quick to blame his nature for its crimes
Claiming darkness will corrupt you, make you blind
The wild traps you and exposes what you are
Your actions show a broken man, a broken heart
GILGAMESH:
You are beneath me!
I earned this power with my strength and grace
The skies exalt me
You can’t perceive the power you now face!
You will be vanquished
And no one will remember who you were
So come and face me
And prove to me that you are more than words...
